A downloadable game for Windows

We read a case study on treating depression through brain-computer interfaces, which sparked our reflections on the risks, ethical concerns, and potential negative impacts of capital intervention in such technology. In response, we created a narrative about a depressed person going to work, who, in the end, finds out they are not actually depressed, and that the brain-computer interface surgery was forced upon them. Everything was under the company's control.

We drew inspiration from Kafka's The Metamorphosis, where the protagonist, even after turning into an insect, still insists on going to work. The absurdity of this persistence serves as a reminder to players that the reality is more complex than it seems. Details within the game also reinforce this notion. We designed the protagonist's home and workplace scenes, embedding puzzles into them, allowing the protagonist's paranoia to blend seamlessly into the gameplay.

In terms of unique gameplay, we were inspired by the puzzle game Hue. Depending on the protagonist's mental state, their perspective's colors change, and so do the objects in the environment.

Behind the conspiracy-laden plot, we aim to remind people of the dual nature of technology, the dangers of capital involvement, and provoke related reflections, while also calling attention to the difficult situations faced by those suffering from depression.
